Heck of a horse race Saturday

Mine That Bird almost came from dead last to first, like he did in the KY Derby, again but came up a length short.

Mine That Bird came up just short of Racheal Alexandra, shame because he was bred to be able to run the 1 mile and 1/2 Belmont with no problem, his sire (dad) Birdstone won the Belmont. Seems like the Triple Crown is almost unwinnable.

The filly ran a hell of a race though. It will be good to see a Derby winner run for a few years afterward though, Mine That Bird was robbed of his family jewels and is a gelding thus he won't go to stud duty like most Derby winners do at the end of the year.

Here's a thought for you- either one of these horses could have been contending for the Triple Crown. If Rachel Alexandra had run in the Derby I think she would have won it, too. Alternatively, Mine That Bird would have been the Preakness winner without her!

Alexandra is bigger and stronger than most of her male opponents but she only had to carry 121 lbs. while all the other horses carried 126.

Come on, ladies, let's fight for equal rights!

Affirmative Action for horses, lol, yeah that's a good one. Gray and roan horses certainly are a minority group...lol

LOL actually the Meadowlands Racetrack in Jersey has a race called the "Gray Ghost" on Halloween Night that limits the field to Gray horses only, I guess that's affirmative action at least for one night/race.
