An odd, old number

I was going to reply to a post but wanted to see where the OP was from, based on his reviews, so I could tailor my reply to his location. One of his old reviews (early 2010s) was "Jane Doe" in my old bailiwick and I'm wondering, "Is that the same Jane Doe that I knew back then?" I look at her Profile and it's a little stale ("Report New Website", most recent review = early 2010s, etc.) and it isn't "my" Jane Doe.
.
For some reason, I clicked on the phone number in Jane Doe's Profile. The OLDEST Provider listing using that number is 18 years ago in 2006! The most recent is 6 months ago in 2023. The 2023 Profile ads are not agency ads ... but that doesn't mean she isn't using an "unnamed" or "unadvertised" booker or agency rep. That phone number has been used by almost 200 Providers in that 18 year period. Clicking on several Profiles, there are White, Latina, AA, Asian ... all sorts of Providers! Some are listed as "Agency" and some are listed as "Independent." Some have only 1 or a few reviews. Some have 10s. Some have 100 and more. (The most I gleaned is 330 reviews.) From some of the names and quick Profile scans, I think that number at one time belonged to one of NYC's most popular agencies that went out of biz in 2014 or so.
.
But the number lives on, even into 2023 and, maybe even 2024. Who will own it next?

... phone numbers for a long time. It was a rather quick result of the "number portability" legislation passed (in the early 2000's?) when cell phones became popular.

Add to that the use of virtual phone numbers used by services like Google Voice and a number can appear under many, many past users/owners.

There are only so many unique, 10-digit numbers, that can be created, while the number of cell phones on the planet is GREATER than the number of toothbrushes.  (see link)

Perhaps the more interesting question, imp, is how many of those providers who had or have that number have you seen?  Inquiring minds, blah, blah, blah.... :p

I think 200 providers getting the same number over 18 years is beyond random chance.  Sounds more like a booking service.
